Levels

Primaries (under age 6) - Children who are new to dance or are still working on the basic footwork and movements. 

Beginner - Children who have mastered basic movements and are incorporating them into dances, but are only at an exam level at or below bronze.

Novice - Dancers who have learned all or most of the 5 basic dances (Fling, Sword, Seann Triubhas, Lilt, Flora) and are at exam levels at bronze-gold.


Advanced - Dancers who are well versed in the core Highland dances, know many nationals dances, and are working on exams above gold level.

Adults - Dancers who did not necessarily dance as children, or are coming back to dance after a few years away.

Registration 2025-26

We offer classes to anyone in the Ottawa area, and are fully equipped to safely teach in the studio following strict public safety protocols.

Dress Code

To ensure professionalism and safety, we maintain a dress code for classes:
  • Primary - pink or black leotard with short or long sleeves, or t-shirt and shorts/leggings. Pink ballet tights or knee socks. Highland, ballet or gymnastic shoes
  • Juniors, Recreational, Adults - dance tights or knee socks. Leggings or dance shorts, dance tops or t-shirts (not oversized), highland ghillies (white socks preferred)
  • Advanced - Form -fitting black bottoms, KRSHD t-shirt or black t-shirt, covered legs (tights/knee socks), proper dance footwear
  • Boys - dance shorts above the knee, t-shirt (not oversized), knee socks, highland ghillies
  • Hair should be tied back from face. No jewellery is to be worn.

What to Bring to Class

  • All dancers: notebooks and pens
  • Juniors and above: 2 meter sticks (sword practice), practice skirt
  • Advanced: Jig shoes, theory books
  • Water bottle (no food/gum allowed in the studio. Teachers will give water breaks during each class)
  • *NO CELL PHONES IN CLASS*  Cells must remain outside or away in a bag

Attendance

Please come to your classes at least 10 minutes early, so that you have time to change and prepare for class. Consistent attendance will benefit your overall learning, confidence and knowledge, and will ensure that you keep up with your lessons. Absence: If you know you are going to be away, please notify your teacher or Ms. Robinson, as your absence does affect lesson planning.

Expectations

Attitude
Come mentally and physically prepared to your class, so you can put forth your best effort. You will then be happy with yourself, and proud of your accomplishments.
​Preparation
Ms. Robinson and teachers are pleased to help you with extra lessons for preparation for competitions and examinations. There will be regularly scheduled classes for competitors and those preparing for high level examinations. Start your lessons in plenty of time so that you will be ready and confident at the time of the competition or the examination.
